This handsome gray wolf is by far one of the sanctuary’s most photogenic. Billy is a brawny, well-built, majestic wolf who easily captures the attention of all who get to meet him. Although Billy is not currently on the tour, it is our goal that he will be in the near future.
Billy is the brother of Galahad (whom he shares his enclosure with), and Jethro, who passed away in 2006. They were separated from the main pack as pups for safety reasons; therefore, they rely on each other for the benefits that family brings them.
Billy has a shy, reserved nature about him when it comes to interacting with the staff at the sanctuary. He gives the impression of wanting contact, yet can be quite skittish upon approach. He is very good at getting the attention he so desires on his own terms. When communicating with Galahad; however, his expressions are eager, loving and affectionate.
Billy enjoys deer meat and hotdogs.
It isn’t often that a shiny black knight comes along at the wolf sanctuary. Galahad is one of those such knights. He has a brilliant coat of black wavy fur that captivates all who have the opportunity to meet him. Although off the tour at the current time, staff are planning to include Galahad in the future.
Galahad shares his enclosure with his brother Billy. Their cousin Churchill was removed for safety purposes.
Although Galahad can be quite shy with newcomers, he ravishes the attention of the staff at the sanctuary. Since he was bottle-fed as a pup, he seeks to be pet, scratched, and kissed. He also enjoys sitting on the laps of staff when he has the opportunity.
Galahad loves any meaty treats.

Murphy was the second male member of the trinity born to Kojak & Thunder. He was playful, aggressive and extremely competitive with his brother Winston and sister Charlie when they were pups. It was predicted that Murphy would become the Alpha male within his own pack, and that is indeed the case. Murphy stands tall and commands a unique respect from the main pack. His personality is one of affection and expression.
Kojak educated Murphy with affection and strict discipline in helping to achieve the ultimate goal and the future heritage of the wolf, as well as the true meaning of learning to be motivated, stable and free.
Murphy likes chicken, deer meat, and any treats from the staff.
Lucky received her name because of the luck which saved her life as a newborn. She was the offspring of Mitacola and Smokey. She was born in the wild part of the territory belonging to the wolves. Her mother was unable to take care of her so she was brought into protective custody for several months.
Being hand raised creates a short period in the life of a wolf when they become more dependent on the human and therefore it is necessary to allow them to be outdoors as soon as they are capable of fending for themselves.
Lucky is very aggressive and has the heart of a free spirit. She is the Alpha in the main pack. Her ability to dominate with expression and affection supports her distinctive wisdom, initiative and stability when expressing herself to the other wolves. They have respect and admiration toward her.
Her personality and her supportive unique ability to dominate with sincere motivation continues to grow with her.
She loves deer meat, hot dogs, hamburger, and special treats.
At first glance, our main pack looks like it has an unexpected visitor, a black bear. As you take a closer look, you will see that is not the case. Hudson, our black bear look alike, is indeed a gray wolf. His “fluffy” head and deep black fur give him a distinct look for sure.
Hudson is a tremendous jumper, especially when he is aiming for a treat that is up in the air!
Hudson is considered to be the sentry, or guard, of his pack - always on alert and ready to defend his territory. He is currently prepping himself to take hold of the Alpha position in the main pack. He shows the desire, the determination, and the ability to be the true leader of this pack.. It will not be an easy task however, as Winston (the Beta) has his brother Murphy's back (the current Alpha). In time, these amazing males will determine what their true destiny is.
Hudson loves deer meat, and any other beefy treat that staff gives him.
Daughter of Lady and Murphy?????, this pretty, petite girl has already earned “Beta” status in the main pack. Trinity can be very difficult to tell apart from her sister Sarge. If it weren't for her white front paws, the two would look almost identical.
Trinity most recently began to show her innate dominance and family loyalty when our newest pups arrived in December, 2007. She immediately took control of babysitting duties to allow her mother/aunt Lucky to take a break.
Trinity carries herself with confidence and assertiveness. Despite her small stature, she demands and has earned the respect from the majority of the pack.
Trinity is a treat queen. You can often find her pushing the pups away from the fence just so that she can get to whatever tasty item the staff is handing out that day.
The unique markings of this gray wolf hybrid truly make him stand out in the main pack. Nova is a young male with a white nose, white chest and white front legs. He is an exceptionally handsome member of his family.
Nova has shown signs of wanting leadership responsibilities in the main pack. Like his cousin Frodo, Nova sometimes sends out clear messages to staff that he wants you to give his pack their food and water then get out. At other times, he appears to be quite interested in hanging with staff, as well as enticing them to chase him around the enclosure.
Nova, like his pack mates, is very inquisitive. When staff come to the sanctuary, they usually see every wolf at the fence, curious to see who is there, what we've brought them in the way of treats, and often howling at the thought of a nice tasty snack.
\“Who is that lone wolf way out there?\”. That is a question staff get quite often during a tour. That “loner” is Geronimo, one of our elusive males in the main pack.
Geronimo is the brother of Thor and Scout. He is a shy male who infrequently allows our tour groups to meet him. When thrown a treat, Geronimo tends to think about it, then gets out of the way of another wolf who has his eyes set on it. Geronimo prefers to avoid conflict, and therefore, gives up some of his treats in order to do so. Don't worry though, staff at the sanctuary make sure Geronimo DOES get plenty to eat!
Geronimo prefers meat as a snack, so he will venture over if we have some for him.
Although the staff at the Sanctuary admire and adore all of the wolves that thrive there, once in awhile a wolf comes along that truly captures their hearts. Thor is one such wolf.
Thor has slowly lost his ability to see due to cataracts. This condition; however, does not hinder his desire to continue to be the well-respected member of the pack that he is. Thor's devoted and authoritative presence in the pack is obvious to all who have the opportunity to meet him.
Thor enjoys the presence of staff inside his enclosure. He is often ready to play chase, follow us around, and of course, snag any piece of our clothing he can get his teeth into.
The staff at the sanctuary take extra special care of Thor when it comes to making sure he gets treats. Thor has learned his name by associating it with obtaining a treat; therefore, he generally comes to the fence when we call him.
Thor loves deer meat, hotdogs, and just about any treat that staff give him.
Frodo is one of our younger males in the main pack. He is large, dignified looking and a force to be reckoned with.
Frodo displays a true desire to be a leader. Since the pups were born in December 2007, Frodo has taken it upon himself to “protect” the pack. Any time a staff person is inside the enclosure to water and feed them, Frodo hurries them along by continually “charging” at them, certainly keeping his distance yet making his point. The staff respond by respecting his wishes.
Frodo enjoys any type of snack. He is still learning how to catch them in the air like the rest of his family.
It is not an easy task for a new staff member at the sanctuary to learn all of the wolves' names, especially in the main pack. Many of our wolves look similar, so we often find some marking that helps us to identify who is who. In Scout's case, you need only remember that he looks just like his brother Thor, minus the cataracts. Scout is handsome, strong, and powerful.
Scout, like Thor, is a highly regarded member of his pack. He maintains an aura of pride and confidence that has led to admiration and respect from the rest of his family. When you look into Scout's eyes, it is as though you can see into his magnificent soul that nature has provided him.
As a pup, Scout would venture from the den, and return to get the others to join him.
Scout is the father of Levi, Lucas, Lincoln and Lazarus, born in December, 2007. Scout will help in teaching his sons the social order in the pack, the importance of play in the family, and the reserved regard for humans.
This pretty and petite female is the splitting image of her sister Trinity, minus the white paws. The two are inseparable the majority of the time, so if you are searching for them, look for one and you'll find the other.
Sarge is by far one of the most verbal wolves at the sanctuary. She is very frequently barking or woofing whenever staff are inside the main pack's enclosure. Sarge barks when she is in opposition to staff sharing her space, as well as when she wants the attention of staff to play chase. She woofs when she'd like to receive a treat.
Sarge was a very active “babysitter” during the pups' first few months of their lives. She and Trinity helped keep watch while Lucky (their mama and surrogate mama) took a break from nursing and caretaking.
Sarge, like the rest of her pack, loves deer meat and hotdogs. She also prefers dog treats that have a beefy flavor to them.
Winston is the second member of the litter born to Kojak & Thunder. He is the brother of Winston and Charlie. Winston is a beautiful wolf with long legs and a full body.
Winston is now the Beta wolf in the main pack. He is the main disciplinarian in the pack, keeping order, watching out for his Alpha brother Murphy, and carrying himself with dignity and pride. Winston is a highly respected member of the pack.
He enjoys mice, hot dogs, deer meat, and treats from staff.
Chomps is the smallest of the males in the main pack at the sanctuary. He looks very much like his sisters, Trinity and Sarge. The characteristic that distinguishes him from the females is that Chomp's right ear is almost completely \“chomped\” off, hence his name.
Chomps is the Omega male in the main pack.
Chomps, like his sisters, shared much of the \“babysitting\” duties with the birth of the pups in December, 2007. He was often found sitting outside Lucky's den, making sure all was well when Lucky needed a break from caretaking.
Although Chomps doesn't get as many treats as the others since he is an Omega, he does come right up to the fence when any kind of raw meat is available.
Smokey is a black phase buffalo wolf who came to our Sanctuary when she was eight weeks old from the Pa Game Commission.
She is a shy, gentle wolf with the temperament of a leader. Smokey lost her mate, Samson, in November, 2007. She runs with her pack and loves the woods. She presents herself with dignity and grace. She loves the attention of small children during tours but stays back just far enough to be considered a bit of a tease. Kids fall for her very quickly and want to take her home.
The wooded areas are her favorite hunting grounds. Although she is very shy, she has earned the respect of the members of the social order and she represents the beauty and discipline necessary for the future growth within the territory known as home.
Her favorite foods are chicken, beef with bones, and treats.
Friday is the sanctuary's \“black beauty\”. He has an amazingly sleek, shiny, pitch-black coat that is extremely captivating to all who meet him. Friday, as you may guess, was born on a Friday.
Friday's \“look\” is also enchanting. He has a very intense expression, as though he is taking in and evaluating all that is going on in his surroundings.
Friday just recently began showing himself off to the public, as well as to the staff at the sanctuary. Not long ago, Friday tended to hide in the brush; close enough for people to catch a glimpse of him, yet maintaining his comfort zone. We are thankful that he has come out of hiding, as he certainly would have been a missed treasure to behold.
Solo is the youngest of Smokey's offspring. Since she was a litter of one, Solo seemed an appropriate name to give her. The average size litter is 4-6 pups; however, Smokey had Solo when she was 9 years old, which may account for her being the only pup.
Solo has two older brothers and sisters, Friday, Swayze, Cinderella and Delilah. Solo differs in her coloring, as she is mostly a golden tan with a faint black stripe down the middle of her back. She also has gorgeous fox like eyes that are mesmerizing!
Solo spent a few weeks away from her pack as a pup to get all of her vaccinations; therefore, she is less shy around staff. When it is treat time, Solo is almost always the first to come to the fence to chow down.
This pretty little female requires no effort to identify nor admire in her pack. Delilah inherited her striking blue left eye from generations before her - her father Samson's bloodline had some husky in it.
Delilah's beautiful blue eye isn't her only definable give-a-way. When visitors are in front of her pack's enclosure, they will almost always find her in the front right corner; her place of comfort and/or choice. Delilah obviously knows that her corner provides the best placement to receive the most amount of treats, as it is directly next to another pack who generally gets their snacks right after her family does.
Delilah is definitely not shy to visitors and staff. She was injured as a pup; therefore, spent almost 5 weeks in the care of staff. Although she doesn't want human contact, she is less reserved than her brothers and sisters when people come to visit.
Delilah enjoys all treats, especially fresh scraps from the butcher.
Dusty is a male in \“Smokey's Gang\”. He has a very distinguished appearance in his pack, as he looks more like an eastern timber wolf than a gray wolf. Dusty is brown, tan and white, and is slender in body. His uniqueness is enthralling.
Dusty has two brothers, Friday and Swayze, and three sisters, Cinderella, Delilah, and Solo. They are a mild-mannered pack, infrequently exhibiting extremely aggressive behavior.
Dusty shys away from receiving treats at the fence, but gladly accepts any treat thrown to him.
Swayze got his name from Mrs. Darlington, who watches the movie \“Ghost\” at least once a month. Swayze's sister, Cinderella, was originally \“Demi\”, but was commemoratively named after Cinderella (of Yellowstone) after her death. Swayze is the son of Smokey and Samson and brother to Friday, Dusty, Delilah, Cinderella, and Solo.
Swayze and his sister Cinderella have very similar features. They are both black, and have gray around their faces. The distinguishing detail is in their faces; Swayze has a longer, more slender face, while
Cinderella's is fuller.
This pack of seven is very mild mannered. Smokey, the Alpha and mother, seems to have a soothing effect on her offspring. Rarely is there any conflict amidst the family members. Now throw a bit of deer meat in their enclosure and you may find that is not the case!
Cinderella is one of three females in Smokey's pack. She is a beautiful gray wolf; hence, her name suits her well. Cinderella was named after a wolf in Yellowstone, after her death. She was originally going to be named \“Demi\”, since Mrs. Darlington watches the movie \“Ghost\” at least once a month.

Glacier has been at the Sanctuary since November, 2005. He is a mix of arctic, eastern timber, and gray wolf.
Glacier is a \“gentle giant\” most of the time, enjoying the affection and attention that he gets from our tour groups and staff. Since Glacier was a pet most of his life, he is most happy when people are around.
Not long ago, Glacier had the company of two very special females, Fawn and Sacki. When they both passed on, Glacier was indeed a very lonely wolf. Soon he will be introduced to our youngest female, Hope. Our \“hope\” is that Glacier and Hope will thrive together in the freedom that the sanctuary brings them.
Chipper is the offspring of Beau and Miki. Chipper and his brother Moon Dancer were separated from their family due to .
In January of 2007, Moon Dancer passed on, leaving Chipper alone. Because wolves are pack animals, the sanctuary staff decided to unite Chipper with one of our other \“lone\” wolves, Casper. This proved to be a successful unification, as the two get along splendidly.
Chipper's name suits him extremely well, as he is always happy to see everyone who comes to visit. He is especially happy when staff go into his enclosure and show him some special attention.
Chipper enjoys hotdogs, deer meat, and any treat that he is offered.
Merlin is the older male in our 4-pack of Eastern Timber wolves. He is the father of Tioga, and mate to Niksa.
Merlin's identifying feature is his left ear, which was injured prior to his coming to live at the sanctuary. The sanctuary staff believes it gives Merlin character. It also enables everyone who visits and knows the wolves to distinguish him from the rest of the pack.
Merlin is somewhat on the shy side. Although Niksa and Tioga love the attention they receive from staff, Merlin prefers to \“sneak up\” behind staff and nudge them with his nose. He scoots away quickly when staff attempts to touch him back.
Merlin enjoys any treat that he can sneak in without his son Tioga beating him to it.
Even in a wolf pack of four, it can be trying to determine who's who. Keisha is almost an identical twin to her sister Niksa. If it weren't for her reddish tone facial features and submissive behavior, Keisha and Niksa would be extremely difficult to pinpoint.
Keisha is the Omega in this small pack. She is the most submissive, the most shy, and the one who gets the fewest treats. She accepts this position in the pack with a quiet dignity, standing humble and devoted to her family.
Keisha enjoys all the treats that she receives.
This beauty is in the eye of every beholder. Niksa's soft, delicate features capture the attention of everyone who meets her.
Niksa is the Alpha female in this 4-pack of Eastern Timber wolves. Her sister Keisha, mate Merlin, and son Tioga complete her pack. Niksa exerts her leadership with unpresuming authority, yet delivers affection with the heart of a free spirit that she is. She can be shy, playful, attention seeking, dominating, and even submissive at times.
Niksa's favorite treats are hot dogs and deer meat. She is smart enough to know that if she stays at the fence while Tioga runs after a treat, she is sure to receive one without interference.
This Eastern Timber Wolf came to the sanctuary when he was just 12 days old. He could fit in the palm of your hand. Tioga is now the largest wolf at the sanctuary, and well as probably the most spoiled.
Tioga's mother, Niksa, became unable to nurse Tioga after he was born; therefore, Tioga was bottle-fed, catered to, and \“ooohed and aahed\” over by staff and visitors for the first 6 months of his life. He then was reintroduced back to his family of heritage - his pack.
Tioga is the Alpha of his pack when it comes to food. He eats first, whether or not the rest of his family likes it. At other times, Tioga is submissive to his parents on their demand. Tioga is very playful, constantly antagonizing the rest of his family to wrestle with him. Tioga also enjoys giving himself a bath in his water bucket. This is a behavior that always amuses staff as well as sanctuary visitors.
Tioga loves just about ANY snack staff gives him. He has rarely turned down a treat.
Casper is a white, large boned male with an attitude of superiority. He has the face of a lover and the temperament of a big teddy bear with staff.
At the same time he is aggressive and dominant.
Due to injuries suffered as a very young pup he has not been included with the main pack. He had a good friend in his domain whose name was Bonnie. Bonnie passed away in January, 2007.
He loves seeing the children during tours and he is always the first at the fence to be introduced. His personality is so responsive to everyone who meets him that he very capably wins them over.
His favorite foods are fresh deer meat, hamburger, and treats from the staff. He is also great at catching mice.
Kojak is a black phase buffalo wolf born in the natural environment belonging to the Wolves of Speedwell. He is dominant and proud, the leader of his own pack. His mate was Thunder. Together they trained and educated their young with affection and wisdom.
Kojak responds to the attention of small children. He is aware of his heritage and he faces daily his challenge and responsibility with patience and dignity. With pins in his shoulder since he was a young pup, Kojak now tends to walk with a limp, maintaining his pride at all times.
His favorite foods are deer meat and hamburger. He also loves getting treats from staff.
As a pup, Turbo was a young male who thought the whole world should be his domain.
He was one of two pups, the first litter born to Kojak and Thunder. He had a sister named Rocket.
He is playful and loves digging deep holes in the ground. He has a dominate personality and a very aggressive nature; however, he is at the same time very shy and elusive toward the staff.
He is capable of achieving sincere support to the pack and is a resourceful addition to the unity of the social order.
His favorite foods include anything in the meat family. His special interest lies in biscuits and bones.
Charlie is the third member of the litter born of Kojak & Thunder. Her brothers are Murphy and Winston. She is built small like her Alpha mother and her markings are about the same. She is aggressive but also very loving.
Due to an illness shortly after birth she has remained with her father instead of entering the main pack with her brothers. Charlie lost one of her front legs when she was 3 years old, but you would never know it. She is a courageous, spirited, and proud member of her pack.
She loves to be with people and her personality is one that would melt your heart. She is strong and affectionate with the staff. She is shy, gentle and resourceful.
Her favorite foods are chicken, hot dogs and beef. She waits with great anticipation each day for treats and runs off with them to either hide or eat them.
Once in awhile our sanctuary staff wakes up one morning to a complete surprise. On September 18th, 2000 we went out to feed the wolves as usual only to discover that Thunder had given birth to one tiny little girl. Since we were not aware she was on the way, we named the baby Destiny. Seemed appropriate!
Destiny is with her father Kojak, her sister Charlie, and her brother Turbo. She is shy and imaginative. She loves to run and play. She is aggressive and embraces each day with new anticipation and wonderment.
She loves the attention of the staff and she use to sleep and hide in Kojak's thick fur. Destiny learned quickly as a pup and understands that freedom is the true heritage of the wolf.
Destiny loves treats and deer meat.
Churchill is the son of Winston, thus his infamous name. Removed from the main pack when he was a pup for safety purposes, Churchill resides with his own pack in the wooded area of the sanctuary. Although Churchill is not currently on the tour, our visitors can imagine his presence when they meet Winston. Churchill is a perfect resemblance of his father.
Churchill is a confident, proud wolf, like Winston. He has the qualities of a leader, the aura of a fierce member of the pack, yet the affection of a devoted member of his family. Being a bottle-fed pup, Churchill thoroughly enjoys the company of staff.
Churchill enjoys beefy treats, hotdogs, and deer meat.
